Pulp Fiction
$17.96 Outrageously violent, time-twisting, and in love with language, Pulp Fiction was widely considered the most influential American movie of the 1990s. Director and co-screenwriter Quentin Tarantino synthesized such seemingly disparate traditions as the syncopated language of David Mamet; the serious violence of American gangster movies, crime movies, and films noirs mixed up with the wacky violence of cartoons, video games, and Japanese animation; and the fragmented story-telling structures of such experimental classics as Citizen Kane, Rashomon, and La jetée. The Oscar-winning script by Tarantino and Roger Avary intertwines three stories, featuring Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta, in the role that single-handedly reignited his career, as hit men who have philosophical interchanges on such topics as the French names for American fast food products; Bruce Willis as a boxer out of a 1940s B-movie; and such other stalwarts as Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Christopher Walken, Eric Stoltz, Ving Rhames, and Uma Thurman, whose dance sequence with Travolta proved an instant classic. ~ Leo Charney, All Movie Guide mainstream. The all-star cast steps into their roles with obvious glee, and Tarantino once again uses his soundtrack to up the cool ante yet another notch, making for a motion picture event that has worked its way into our national vernacular. |

Pulp Fiction [UMD]
$11.36 Writer-director Quentin Tarantino revisits the seedier side of Los Angeles--following 1992's RESERVOIR DOGS--with this funny, violent, tongue-in-cheek tribute to the less "classic" side of filmmaking--the potboilers and capers, the Blaxploitation flicks and gangster movies. The film interweaves three tales, told in a circular, fractured manner, which only fully connect by the time the final credits roll. The first story focuses on Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson), two hit men on duty for "the big boss," Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames), whose gorgeous wife, Mia (Uma Thurman), takes a liking to Vincent. In the second, a down-and-out pugilist (Bruce Willis), who is ordered to take a fall, decides that there's more money in doing the opposite. The final chapter follows a pair of lovers (Amanda Plummer and Tim Roth) as they prepare to hold up a diner.Tarantino wears his cinematic influences proudly, bringing them to life in the ironically hip, self-referential 1990s. The result is a work that changed the face of independent cinema forever, making it a legitimate player in the Hollywood mainstream. The all-star cast steps into their roles with obvious glee, and Tarantino once again uses his soundtrack to up the "cool" ante yet another notch, making for a motion picture event that has worked its way into our national vernacular. Pulp Fiction [MCA Collectors Edition]
$16.98 The soundtrack to Quentin Tarantino's darkly funny crime classic Pulp Fiction manages to recreate the film's wildly careening sense of style, violence, and humor by concentrating on the surf music that comprises the bulk of the movie's incidental music and adding a few sexy oldies integral to the film's story ("Let's Stay Together," "Son of a Preacher Man," "You Never Can Tell"). Of course, the inclusion of dialogue and Urge Overkill's seductive cover of Neil Diamond's "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon" don't hurt either. [The two-CD collector's edition adds a second disc consisting of an interview with Quentin Tarantino and appends four more songs to the original soundtrack: "Since I First Met You" by the Robins, "Rumble" by Link Wray, "Strawberry Letter #23" by Brothers Johnson, and "Out of Limit" by the Marketts.] ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music GuidePerformers: Peter Green - Spoken Word; Jerome Patrick Hoban - Spoken Word; Samuel L. Bruce Willis [EP]
$9.33 For Western Vinyl's portrait series, artists are supposed to choose an individual, write two or more songs about them, and provide an image for the cover. Jürgen DeBlonde -- here under his Köhn moniker -- chose Bruce Willis, but the narrative on "Remembering the Flash Back" suggests he's not very concerned with staying on topic. If it wasn't for that track's story of DeBlonde's childhood, it would be easy to say that he's contrasting Willis' more commercial side by playing Salaryman-styled rock and then destroying it with industrial slabs of noise for the actor's darker side. I Am Robot and Proud's lighter moments and the subterranean noises from David Lynch's soundtracks are other sounds that creep in here and there, but Bruce Willis never sticks in one place very long. It would be nice to think DeBlonde is mocking the laptop crowd's obsession with concepts, but whatever the message, this engaging aural schizophrenia doesn't run out of ideas, just reason. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide |

Pulp
$25.81 Pulp brings together in one volume chapters on the bestseller, detective fiction, popular romance, science fiction and horror. It combines a lucid and accessible account of the cultural theories that have informed the study of popular fiction with detailed readings of particularly Jackie Collins, Jilly Cooper, Colin Dexter, William Gibson, Stephen King, Iain Banks, Terry McMillan and Walter Mosley. Scott McCracken argues that popular fiction serves a vital function in the late twentieth century: it provides us with the means to construct a workable sense of self in the face of the disorientating pressures of modernity. |

Pulp Fiction
$9.75 For many, Quentin Tarantino''s films, especially Pulp Fiction (1994), defined American cinema in the 1990s. The films are hard, fast, funny, stylish, and filled with clever allusions to other films and essential works of 90s chic postmodernism. In this book, Dana Polan sets out to unlock the style and technique of Pulp Fiction. He shows how broad Tarantino''s points of reference are, and analyzes the film''s considerable narrative accomplishment and complexity. In addition, Polan argues that the macho attitudes celebrated in the film are much more complex and fragile than they sometimes seem. |

Kohn - Bruce Willis [EP]
$10.98 Kohn: Jurgen DeBlonde. For Western Vinyl`s portrait series, artists are supposed to choose an individual, write two or more songs about them, and provide an image for the cover. J\u0001rgen DeBlonde -- here under his K\u0014hn moniker -- chose Bruce Willis, but the narrative on "Remembering the Flash Back" suggests he`s not very concerned with staying on topic. If it wasn`t for that track`s story of DeBlonde`s childhood, it would be easy to say that he`s contrasting Willis` more commercial side by playing Salaryman-styled rock and then destroying it with industrial slabs of noise for the actor`s darker side. I Am Robot and Proud`s lighter moments and the subterranean noises from David Lynch`s soundtracks are other sounds that creep in here and there, but Bruce Willis never sticks in one place very long. It would be nice to think DeBlonde is mocking the laptop crowd`s obsession with concepts, but whatever the message, this engaging aural schizophrenia doesn`t run out of ideas, just reason. ~ David Jeffries Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. Pulp Fiction
$11.88 The soundtrack to Quentin Tarantino's darkly funny crime classic Pulp Fiction manages to re-create the film's wildly careening sense of style, violence, and humor by concentrating on the surf music that comprises the bulk of the movie's incidental music and adding a few sexy oldies integral to the film's story ("Let's Stay Together," "Son of a Preacher Man," "You Never Can Tell"). Of course, the inclusion of dialogue and Urge Overkill's seductive cover of Neil Diamond's "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon" doesn't hurt either. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music GuidePerformers: Norman Knowles - Saxophone |

Pulp Fiction : 0851708080
$7.48 A well constructed book that challenges the reader with some interesting twists on old themes.--6DegreesFor many, Quentin Tarantino's films, especially Pulp Fiction (1994), defined American cinema in the 1990s. The films are hard, fast, funny, stylish, and filled with clever allusions to other films and essential works of 90s chic postmodernism. In this book, Dana Polan sets out to unlock the style and technique of Pulp Fiction. He shows how broad Tarantino's points of reference are, and analyzes the film's considerable narrative accomplishment and complexity. In addition, Polan argues that the macho attitudes celebrated in the film are much more complex and fragile than they sometimes seem. |

Original Soundtrack - Pulp Fiction
$9.89 Also available with RESERVOIR DOGS as a 2-CD set. This collector`s edition contains 4 additional tracks plus a bonus interview disc with director Quentin Tarantino.Pumped with the same sweaty adrenaline as the movie, the soundtrack for PULP FICTION is an audio example of why director Quentin Tarantino was the most talked-about filmmaker of the 1990s. Meshing snippets of dialogue with a diverse and powerful soundtrack, PULP FICTION is dripping with the same seedy tension that characterizes Tarantino`s films. There are moments of elegance too. Al Green`s luxurious "Let`s Stay Together" and Dusty Springfield`s throaty "Son of a Preacher Man" show that the heart of a romantic beats behind Tarantino`s mischievous grin. A generous sampling of surf rock from the likes of Dick Dale & his Del-Tones and the Tornadoes adds to the chaotic atmosphere of the three different stories within the film. The soundtrack for PULP FICTION is another homage to Tarantino`s great love affair with American rock. The tongue-in-cheek delivery of Neil Diamond`s "Girl You`ll Be a Woman Soon," as done by Urge Overkill, brushes against the lonely-criminal sentiment of Ricky Nelson`s gorgeous "Lonesome Town." Tarantino is definitely hip, and PULP FICTION`s soundtrack will make you respect his ear for detail even if you haven`t seen the film. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. Lesbian Pulp Fiction
$16.48 Long before the rise of the modern gay movement, an unnoticed literary revolution was occurring between the covers of the cheaply produced lesbian pulp paperbacks of the post–World War II era. In 1950, publisher Fawcett Books founded its Gold Medal imprint, inaugurating the reign of lesbian pulp fiction. These were the books that small-town lesbians and prurient men bought by the millions — cheap, easy to find in drugstores, and immediately recognizable by their lurid covers: often a hard-looking brunette standing over a scantily clad blonde, or a man gazing in tormented lust at a lovely, unobtainable lesbian. For women leading straight lives, here was confirmation that they were not alone and that darkly glamorous, "gay" places like Greenwich Village existed. Some — especially those written by lesbians — offered sympathetic and realistic depictions of "life in the shadows," while others (no less fun to read now) were smutty, sensational tales of innocent girls led astray. In the overheated prose typical of the genre, this collection documents the emergence of a lesbian subculture in postwar America. |

The Great Pulp Fiction Heroes
$8.63 Here is an affectionate look back at the outsized heroes who once occupied the imagination of millions of loyal readers-The Shadow, Tarzan, Doc Savage, Captain Future, The Spider, Zorro. Fascinating and informative, THE GREAT PULP HEROES is a lively and entertaining history of those fabulous characters, of the gaudy, glorious magazines that spawned them, and of the amazing wordsmiths who churned out their monthly adventures |
